Singing shouldn't be limited to those heard on the radio. There are programs and software available to help individuals take the voice they were given and train it to get the best results they can get. Keep in mind that music artists record in studio's that can manipulate their voices to sound flawless.

With some training and vocal techniques, anyone can learn how to sing. The only case where someone may not benefit from singing techniques is if they are tone deaf. This may make things a lot more difficult for the individual. If someone is tone deaf, they aren't able to hear the tones that are being made, or that they are making, so they can't tell if they are being singing them improperly.
Vocal range is very important when learning how to sing. It helps to be able to follow along with a piano to practice scales and songs. Warming up should always be done with vocal exercises before extensive singing is done. Breathing exercises are also vital to learn how to sing properly. These can be done before singing and even before falling asleep at night. The techniques can really be done at any time during the day.
Many people are enrolling in vocal lessons because they simply want to learn how to sing better. But if in case you are attending the lessons to become a professional singer and make a living out of it, then it's another whole story. You may need to learn to read music to develop your note familiarization and be able to sing really well.
Now, after all the hard work in vocal training, of course there will come a time that you want to put your singing abilities to the test. You perhaps will go for an audition or join a band in your community.
Vocal coach does not only teach the singing techniques to learn how to sing better, but they also enumerate the "what's not to do" and "what's not to take," for those who really want to learn how to sing like a professional singer.
You may also develop singing style overtime.... this can happen while you are on your way to learning how to sing. Remember, all the hard work has pay off! And the biggest pay off you will ever get is a great singing voice.
