Unless you've lived in a cave for the past 15 years, you know that Fender has had no deficit of Artist-inspired guitars. One of their oldest offerings is still one of their greatest, the Eric Clapton model Stratocaster. Though it's had a few refinements over the years, its versatility and quality remain extremely high.

If you're reading this, you likely already are familiar with a basic Fender Strat, so let's focus on the differences between a stock model and the Clapton.

Perhaps the most fundamental if not most obvious deviation is the electronics package. Since ol' Slowhand has used a number of instruments throughout his famous career (including everything from a Gibson SG to a traditional Fender Strat), he needs an instrument than can mimic a variety of different instruments.

While the Fender Eric Clapton model may seem like a mild-mannered Stratocaster, there's a lot of audio wizardry under the hood. The Clapton Strat is stocked with with an active 25db mid-boost controlled by what is usually the middle-pickup tone control.

The mid-boost adds enough versatility, but that's not all the Clapton Strat offers. You've also got quality Fender Noiseless pickups and a master TBX tone control. The Clapton Stratocaster might just be the most versatile guitar you ever play. Seriously.

Aside from the sounds, the Clapton model has a comfortable playability that few instruments achieve. We can thank the V-shaped neck and 9.5" fingerboard radius for that. The back of the neck is fantastically smooth and lends itself to easy bends and fast runs with no effort.

We have to be forthright and say that this guitar is also one of the easiest playing guitars we've ever played. It's really that good.

That's not to say we wouldn't have some suggestions should Mr. Clapton ask our thoughts. While the vintage-style tuners add an air of old-school charm to the model, we think that locking tuners would be a more proper choice for such a contemporary instrument.

Similarly, it would be nice if the vibrato wasn't blocked by default, but that's the way Clapton likes it, so that's the way it is.

These niggles aside, the Eric Clapton Stratocaster is a world-class guitar and one we recommend highly. Go get yours today!
